We are investigating following an aggravated burglary at a house in St Helens last night, Sunday 9th April.
At around 9.45pm two unknown males approached a property on Knowsley Road and forced entry.
The males confronted the occupier, a woman in her 50s, and she was assaulted, suffering facial injuries. She was able to escape the property using a rear entrance.
It is not believed anything was stolen but the woman was left badly shaken by her ordeal.
The males are believed to have caused damage to a van and three cars parked outside the house as they departed.
An investigation is underway and house-to-house, CCTV and forensic enquiries are being carried out in the local area.
One of the males is described as around 6ft tall, dressed all in black with his hood up and the lower part of his face covered. The second was around 5ft 8in tall, with a light grey jacket with the hood up and the lower half of his face covered. They are both described as being in their mid to late 20s and spoke with local accents.
Detective Inspector Yoseph Al-Ramadhan said: “This was a shocking incident in which a woman was assaulted during a burglary in her own home.
“Thankfully incidents such as this are very rare but we are committed to finding the people responsible and bringing them to justice.
“I would ask anyone who was driving along Knowsley Road last night who saw or heard anything suspicious or think they have information which could assist with our enquiries to contact us as a matter of urgency.”
Anyone with information is asked to DM @MerPolCC or @CrimestoppersUK on 0800 555 111 quoting reference 23000301902.
