Man arrested for possession of knife and affray in city centre

A man has been arrested on suspicion of being in possession of a knife in Liverpool city centre yesterday, Wednesday 5 April.

At around 5.30pm it was reported a man was hitting street signs and being aggressive to members of the public on Church Street. Officers located him on Bold Street and issued him with a Dispersal Order to leave the city centre within 15 minutes and not to return for 48 hours otherwise he would be arrested.

Later that evening at around 8.15pm, officers responded to reports that a man was waving a knife around on Bold Street and behaving in a threatening manner.

It was further reported that he had knocked over a table of a café, causing crockery to smash.

A 23-year-old man from Kirkdale was arrested on suspicion of Breach of Dispersal Order/Affray/Possession of a Bladed Article, Threats to Kill and Criminal Damage. He is in custody and being questioned by police.

Community Policing Inspector Jack Woodward said: “This Dispersal Order is to ensure residents and businesses are not subjected with such behaviour and will not be tolerated.

“Our high visibility police presence and the Dispersal Order is there to provide reassurance to people who visit the city centre to shop or enjoy the nightlife in peaceful manner without fear or harm.
