We can confirm we are investigating following reports that blank shots were fired on Chatham Street in Liverpool this afternoon, Monday 28 August.
At around 4.40pm officers received a report that loud bangs had been heard on Chatham Street.
There were also reports that a man was seen on a black electric bike on Chatham Street holding an unknown item that was directed at a man walking his dog in the area. He was then seen riding away from the location.
There are no reports of anyone being injured.
An investigation is underway and house-to-house and CCTV enquiries are being carried out in the local area.
Detective Inspector Neil Dillon said: “The investigation is in the very early stages as we seek to establish what has taken place.
“Carrying or using firearms and dangerous weapons on our streets where people live will not be tolerated in Merseyside and I would like to reassure residents that our officers remain at the scene to investigate the incident.
“The incident happened in the early afternoon when people would have been in and around their homes, therefore I would urge residents to let us know anything that they have seen or heard as it this information could be vital.
“Similarly if you have any dash cam footage that could have captured the incident please check your systems and contact police if you have any evidence.
“Information from our community is vital if we are to stop people carrying any dangerous weapons in Merseyside that causes such violence and fear on our streets.”
Anyone with information is asked to DM @MerPol or contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111 quoting log 644 of Monday 28 August.
