Appeal for information following knifepoint robbery in Wallasey

We are appealing for information following a knifepoint robbery in Wallasey yesterday, Sunday 20 August.

It was reported that a 14-year-old boy was walking his electric bike through Wallasey Cemetery at around 4.45pm when he was approached by a male who pulled a large knife from his trouser waistband and demanded the bike.

The suspect, who was dressed in all black, left with the bike onto Derby Road and carried on down Seaton Road, Castle Road and continued along Seaview Road towards Asda.

The victim was unharmed but left shaken by the incident.

Our enquiries are ongoing into the incident and we are appealing for anyone with information to come forward.

The suspect is described as a white male, around 5ft 5in tall, aged between 15-17, slim build, brown eyes and had a local accent. He was wearing a black Berghaus jacket, combat trousers and black ON Cloud trainers.

The stolen bike is described as a Scott XL electric bike, with a dark green frame, light green branding and there is a deep, prominent silver scratch on the frame and the battery pack is visible.

The weapon used is described as a knife with a brown wooden handle and black blade.

Detective Inspector Anna Hackett said: “This would have been extremely distressing for the boy and we are determined to find the person responsible.

“If you were in the area of Wallasey Cemetery yesterday afternoon and saw anything, please get in touch. If you live in the area or were passing in the car, please check your CCTV cameras or dashcam footage to see if you captured the suspect either before or after the incident.

“Likewise, if you have seen this electric bike since, let us know. Every piece of information, no matter how small, could be vital to the ongoing investigation.”

Chief Inspector of Wirral Community Policing Tom Welch added: “There has understandably been concern in our communities in relation to knife crime recently and we are determined to take these dangerous weapons off the streets.

“I want to reassure people who live in our area that we take these reports extremely seriously and we will do everything in our powers to reduce knife crime in Wirral. Our officers are committed in removing anyone who stores, carries and uses weapons through various measures, including proactive use of stop and search powers, open land searches, warrants and education work alongside partners.

“If you have any information about young people carrying knives in our community, please come forward and let us know.”
