We can confirm a man’s body has been found in the River Mersey near to Fort Perch Rock in New Brighton this morning (Sunday, 6 August).
We responded to a call from a member of the public who was taking her dog for a morning walk when she discovered the body at 9.34am.
The investigation is in its early stages and the death is currently being treated as unexplained.
Work is ongoing to identify the man and identify his next of kin.
A post-mortem examination will take place to establish the cause of death.
