Appeal after burglary in New Ferry

We are appealing for information after a man was assaulted by two burglars at home in New Ferry early on Saturday (16 December).

Police were called to the property on Bebington Road at around 4.20am to a report two men had forced entry to the property before assaulting the victim, a man in his 50s, who has been treated in hospital for a laceration to his hand.

The offenders, who were wearing black clothing, then made off on foot having taken a laptop and mobile phone.

House to house enquiries have been carried out, and CCTV opportunities in the area are being explored.

Detective Inspector Sarah Wilkinson said: “Nobody has the right to force entry into someone’s property, and it is dreadful to think that this victim was then assaulted by those people when he disturbed them.

“Burglary is an invasive crime in which the sanctity and safety of the home is violated. Everyone has the right to feel safe in their home, without the fear of being targeted in this way, and we will do everything we can to identify who was responsible and bring them to justice.

“If you saw anything suspicious in the area of Bebington Road in the early hours of Saturday, please get in touch so that we can bring those responsible to justice.”

If you have any information on this incident, please DM us on X @MerPolCC or message us on Facebook ‘Merseyside Police Contact Centre’ quoting log 874 of 30 November. You can also pass information via Crimestoppers anonymously, on 0800 555 111 or via their online form at: https://crimestoppers-uk.org

Since the creation of Merseyside Police’s dedicated burglary team, known as Operation Castle, there has been a significant reduction in burglaries. The team have helped put burglars behind bars, provided advice to businesses and residents and helped create a portal where residents across Merseyside can submit footage of suspicious behaviour.

If you discover video footage on your home security camera or smart doorbell that shows someone acting suspiciously on your property, you can upload it for the attention of the Operation Castle team here:
