We are appealing for information following an aggravated burglary in St Helens last night, Monday 4 December.
At around 10.30pm, it was reported that five males had broken into a home on Broad Oak Road and threatened the male occupier.
During the burglary, the victim was assaulted when he was punched several times.
The suspects then fled the scene with a quantity of cash and emergency services were called and the male was taken to hospital for treatment to minor facial injuries.
An investigation is underway and house-to-house, CCTV and forensic enquiries are being carried out in the local area.
Detective Inspector Jimmy Rotheram said: “This was a shocking incident in which a man was assaulted during a burglary in his own home.
“This would have been extremely traumatic for the victim. Thankfully incidents such as this are very rare, but we are committed to finding the people responsible and bringing them to justice.
“If you have any information about this incident, or live in the area and have CCTV cameras, please check them to see if you captured anything significant.
“Similarly, if you were driving in the area at around the time of the incident, please review your dashcam footage.”
Anyone with information is asked to DM @MerPolCC or @CrimestoppersUK on 0800 555 111 quoting reference 23001227630.
