We can confirm that a cyclist has sadly died following a road traffic collision in St Helens earlier this month.
At around 4.30pm on Monday 4th December, Paul Cunliffe, was involved in a collision with a silver Nissan Micra and a white Ford Transit van on Sherdley Road, near to Peterlee Close.
The 40-year-old dad-of-two from Thatto Heath, was taken to hospital but sadly passed away last week.
Both drivers of the Nissan Micra and a white Ford Transit van are assisting us with enquiries.
We are continuing to appeal for anyone who witnessed the collision or captured anything significant on their dashcam or CCTV to contact us.
We have issued image of five vehicles that were in the area at the time of the collision and would ask the drivers to come forward as they may have information which could assist our investigation.
Sergeant Simon Duffy from the Matrix Serious Collision Investigation Unit said: “While the images are not the clearest we hope that motorists may recall driving along Sherdley Road around 4.30pm on Monday 4th December and recognise their vehicles.
“Paul was wearing a yellow high visibility jacket and was riding towards Elton Head Road. Did you see him prior to the collision? Please contact us if you can help.
“Similarly, if you saw a white Ford Transit courier van that came from the direction of Sutton Heath Road or a light blue Nissan Micra that travelled from Elton Head Road please get in touch.
“We also believe that the occupants of a dark coloured Ford C Max and a small blue hatchback were in the immediate vicinity and may have vital information.
Anyone who witnessed the incident or has any dashcam footage of the collision is asked to call our Matrix Serious Collision Investigation Unit on (0151) 777 5747, email [email protected], or DM @MerPolCC on Twitter quoting reference 23001226394.
