Detectives are continuing to appeal for information following a serious road traffic collision on Sherdley Road in St Helens yesterday afternoon, Monday 4 December which has left a man in a critical condition.
At around 4.30pm, it was reported that a cyclist who travelled from the Bold area via Marshalls Cross Road and The Score was involved in a collision with a silver Nissan Micra and a white Ford Transit van on Sherdley Road, near to Peterlee Close.
A 40-year-old man who was riding the bike sustained a serious injury and remains in hospital where his condition is described as critical.
Both drivers of the Nissan Micra and a white Ford Transit van remained at the scene and are assisting us with enquiries.
We are asking for any witnesses who may be able to provide information to enable us to establish the full circumstances of this incident to contact us.
Sergeant Simon Duffy from the Matrix Serious Collision Investigation Unit said: “I appeal to any motorists or pedestrians who were on Sherdley Road at 4.30pm yesterday afternoon who may have seen a cyclist, wearing a yellow high visibility jacket, riding towards Elton Head Road to contact police.
“Similarly, if you saw a white Ford Transit courier van that came from the direction of Sutton Heath Road or a light blue Nissan Micra that travelled from Elton Head Road please contact us.
“We also believe that the occupants of a white box van with blue markings, a grey SUV, possibly a Ford C Max and a small blue hatchback were in the immediate vicinity and may have vital information.
“Even if you did not see the actual collision, I would urge anyone in the area at that time to make contact as we would like to speak to them as a matter of urgency.”
Anyone who witnessed the incident or has any dashcam footage of the collision is asked to call our Matrix Serious Collision Investigation Unit on (0151) 777 5747, email [email protected], or DM @MerPolCC on Twitter quoting reference 23001226394.
