We are appealing for information following reports of a non-injury firearms discharge in Bootle last night, Friday 8 December.
Officers were called to Wolfenden Avenue at around 10pm following reports that a shot had been heard.
Armed officers were deployed and following enquiries it’s believed a male was shot at near an alleyway by two other males. One of the suspects was on foot and the other was on an electric bike.
Evidence was found on the street of a firearm being discharged, but so far there have been no reported injuries.
A police cordon remains in place at the scene as we continue the investigate the incident.
Crime scene investigators are carrying out forensic examinations and officers will conduct CCTV and house-to-house enquiries.
Detective Inspector Leanne Toole said: “The investigation is in the very early stages as we seek to establish what has taken place.
“Gun crime has no place on our streets and we will do everything within our powers to find the people responsible and bring them to justice.
“We are committed to taking weapons out of our communities and, rest assured, if you tell us about any suspected possession or offences we will take action.
“We pro-actively investigate serious organised crime in Merseyside, including the use of guns and the supply and distribution of drugs.
“We will relentlessly pursue anyone suspected as being involved in serious organised crime and we need the public to be our eyes and ears and tell us what they know so that we can take positive action.
“I would appeal to anyone who may have witnessed the incident on Wolfenden Avenue, or has any information which could help us with our inquiries to come forward. I would also like to appeal to any motorists who were in the area, who may have captured the incident on dashcam footage to get in touch.”
Anyone who has information which can assist our officers in finding the people responsible can call 101 or DM @MerPolCC on Twitter or 'Merseyside Police Contact Centre' on Facebook quoting log 941 of 8th December. Alternatively, you can contact Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
