A man has been arrested following a serious injury road traffic collision in Liverpool where a woman has sadly died.
The incident happened at about 6.10pm on Friday 15 December when a silver Vauxhall Corsa car was in collision with a female pedestrian on Acrefield Road.
The pedestrian, a 90-year-old woman, sustained serious injuries and was sadly pronounced deceased at the scene.
The driver of the car, a 52-year-old man from Liverpool stopped at the scene and was later arrested on suspicion of drug driving and death by dangerous driving.
He has been taken to a police station in Merseyside where he remains in custody.
Road closures have been put in place whilst the Roads Policing Unit carries out forensic examinations at the scene. The closures are at Glenrose Road, Acrefield Road and Rose Brow. Motorists are advised to avoid the area and we would like thank drivers for their patience whilst the examinations of the scene are carried out.
Chief Inspector Phil Thompson said: “Our thoughts and condolences are with the woman's family during this tragic time and they are being supported by specially trained officers.
“Although we have arrested a man at the scene, we are still in the very early stages of our investigation and are appealing for information to help us find out the full circumstances of what happened.
“I would appeal to any motorists who may have been driving on Acrefield Road around this time and have a dash camera in their vehicle to contact us. I would be grateful if you could check your footage as soon as possible and contact our officers if you have captured something of significance.
“If you witnessed this incident, captured it on dashcam or have any CCTV footage, please get in touch with our officers."
Anyone who witnessed the collision, or who may have dashcam footage, is asked to contact the Roads Policing Team on 0151 777 5747, email [email protected] or DM @MerPolTraffic on Twitter quoting log 798 of 15 December.
