We can sadly confirm that a man has died and a murder investigation is now underway following a fatal stabbing in Toxteth yesterday, Sunday 10th December.

At around 1pm, it was reported that three people had sustained stab and slash wounds during an incident inside a communal area of a block of flats located at the corner of Upper Warwick Street and Hillaby Close.

Emergency services attended and all three people were taken to hospital.

One of the victims - a 28-year-old man - was pronounced dead at hospital and a post-mortem will take place to establish the cause of death.

His next of kin have been informed and are being supported by specialist officers.

The other male victim, aged in his 30s, remains in hospital in a critical condition and the female victim, also aged in her 30s, remains in hospital in a serious but stable condition.

We believe this was a targeted attack and the suspect is known to the victims.

An investigation is underway with a forensic examination of the scene and house to house enquiries being carried out to establish what happened and to locate the person responsible.

A road closure is currently in place at the scene as officers explore CCTV opportunities in the area.

We are appealing for anyone with information about this incident to please come forward.

Detective Chief Inspector Allison Woods said: “This was a shocking attack that has tragically resulted in the death of a man. Our thoughts are with the victim’s family and specialist officers are currently supporting them.

“There are two other victims who remain in hospital after sustaining serious injuries in this attack. Although it’s still early in the investigation, we believe this was targeted and that the suspect is known to the victims.

“We are determined to find the male responsible for this attack and we will be relentless in our pursuit. The local community will be concerned by this incident, but please be assured that our investigation is ongoing to find him and remove him from our streets.

“We understand the devastating impact that knife crime can have on individuals, families, and wider communities and our work to educate people of all ages of the dangers they pose continues.

“We are continuing to appeal for information and if you live in the area or were driving past at the time, please review your CCTV or dashcam footage to see if you captured anything significant.

“Our officers remain in the area to reassure residents and to continue with the early stages of this investigation.”
