Witness appeal following report of robbery in Walton

We are appealing for witnesses following a report of a robbery in Walton on Sunday 17 December.

It was reported that at around 8pm a man with a walking stick withdrew money from Sainsbury’s cash machine on Rice Lane. He then walked went past two men on the footpath leading to Rice Lane and Cavendish Drive when he was hit on the side of the head causing him to fall, and they continued to assault him.

The offenders searched the victim and stole his money, then ran off, turning left on Rice Lane.

The victim, who is in his 50s, sustained grazing and swelling to his face which did not require medical treatment.

The first offender is described as a white man around 30-years-old, 5ft 6in tall, slim build, with brown shaved hair and stubble. He wore a black hooded top, black tracksuit bottoms and white trainers.

The second offender is described  as a white man in his mid-30s, slim build, 6fit 2in tall with blonde shaved hair and stubble. He was wearing a light grey hooded top, black tracksuit bottoms and white trainers.

An investigation is underway with extensive CCTV and witness enquiries being conducted and are appealing for anyone with information to come forward.

Detective Inspector Mike Fletcher said: “This was a frightening and callous robbery on a vulnerable man, thankfully he wasn’t seriously injured.

“I would appeal to anyone who witnessed what happened that we have not already spoken or saw the suspects matching the description in the vicinity to please come forward.

“Similarly, I ask motorists and residents in the area to check your dashcam, CCTV and doorbell footage for anything captured which could be vital to the investigation.

“If you know anything, please tell us and we’ll take action to find those responsible and bring them to justice.”
