We are appealing for witnesses following a fatal road traffic collision in Stoneycroft yesterday afternoon, Sunday 5 February.
Officers were contacted at 2.30pm following reports a Vauxhall Meriva and a Mercedes had been in collision at the junction of Green Lane and Guernsey Road.
The front seat passenger in the Meriva, a 79-year-old woman, was taken to hospital following the collision. Sadly she died a short time later.
Her next of kin have been informed and are being supported by specially trained officers.
The driver of the Meriva, an 83-year-old man, remains in hospital.
A 29-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of causing death by careless/inconsiderate driving and drug driving.
He has been released on bail as enquiries continue.
Detective Sergeant Amy Murray, from our Matrix Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: “Our thoughts at this time are with the family and friends of the lady who sadly passed away yesterday.
“We are continuing to make enquiries and would ask anyone who was in the area of Green Lane and Guernsey Road at around 2.30pm who witnessed anything or captured anything significant on the dashcam to contact us as a matter of urgency.”
Anyone who witnessed the incident or has any information is asked to call our Matrix Serious Collision Investigation Unit on (0151) 777 5747, email [email protected], or DM @MerPolCC on Twitter quoting reference 23000104554.
