We are appealing for information following a fatal road traffic collision in Haydock earlier today (Saturday 28 January).
At around 4.05pm, emergency services were called to Liverpool Road, near Pewfall Park, to reports of a collision involving a pedestrian and a black Toyota Alphard car.
The pedestrian, a man aged in his 60s, was sadly pronounced deceased at the scene.
The man's next of kin have been informed and will be supported by specially trained officers.
The driver of the car stopped at the scene and is helping with our enquiries.
Road closures are currently in place at this section of Liverpool Road while emergency services attend the incident and we ask that drivers avoid the area and find an alternative route.
We are in the early stages of investigating this collision and are appealing for any witnesses, CCTV and dashcam footage which may assist our ongoing enquiries.
Chief Inspector Philip Cowin said: “Our thoughts and condolences are with the family of the man who has sadly lost his life following a collision earlier today.
“We have now launched an investigation into his death and his family will be supported by our specially trained liaison officers.
“I would appeal to anyone who witnessed this incident to please contact us. Alternatively, if you were driving in the vicinity, I ask that you please check your dashcam footage that may have captured the incident and to also come forward.
“Every piece of information is vitally important to our investigation to establish what happened.”
Anyone who witnessed the collision or captured anything on CCTV or dashcam is asked to contact SCIU on (0151) 777 5747, or email [email protected]. Alternatively DM @MerPolCC or @CrimestoppersUK on 0800 555 111, quoting reference 23000082276.
