Arrests following ongoing police disruption targeting criminals in Wirral

A number of arrests have been made following an ongoing proactive policing operation to target criminals.

Officers were in Birkenhead and Wallasey on Wednesday 18 January, in high visibility police presence disrupt criminality and protect those living in the area.

In one incident, officers approached a red Volkswagen Golf on Penrith Street, Birkenhead. The driver started the ignition and struck the officer then drove off towards Ball Road East.

A short time later a 25-year-old man from Birkenhead was arrested at an address on suspicion of a number of offences including dangerously driving, failing to stop, possession of a bladed article, and assault of an emergency worker.

He has been released under investigation and the vehicle has been seized.

Officers stopped a black Alfa Romeo on Duke Street and suspected the driver being under the influence of drugs. A search was carried out and suspected drugs paraphernalia for cannabis was found. The driver also tested positive for cocaine.

A 23-year-old man from Kirkby was arrested on suspicion of drug driving. He has been released pending further enquiries.

In another incident officers arrested a man on Saturday 14 January as part of the ongoing disruption campaign in the borough.

Jake Robinson, 22 years, of Glenfield Close, Beechwood, has been charged with possessing an offensive weapon in a private place and possessing a controlled Class B drug (cannabis).

He has been given unconditional bail and is due to appear at Wirral Magistrates Court on Tuesday 21 February.

“These latest arrests illustrates our relentless determination to proactively tackle crime and keep our streets safe. This supports the work we do every day of the year to tackle those who offend in our communities.
