Two men charged in separate incidents of robbery in St Helens

Detectives have today, Tuesday 31 January, charged two men in separate incidents of robbery which took place in St Helens.

On Friday 27 January, two men entered Farmfoods store on Boundary Road and took items from the shelf. One suspect made threats to staff when he was asked to put it back and proceeded to take further goods from the store. Both suspects then left the store. No one as injured from the incident.

A further attempted theft took place at the store on Sunday 29 January and the suspect was later arrested by officers.

Ian Wilde, 36 years, of Frodsham Drive, St Helens has been charged with robbery and assault by beating.

Wilde remains in custody and will appear at Wirral Magistrates Remand Court today, Tuesday 31 January.

In another incident on Sunday 29 January, officers received a report that Whittaker’s School Wear on Bridge Street had been broken in to and money was stolen.

Later that day it was reported that a man entered McColls on Higher Parr Street with a knife, demanded money from staff and made off with a quantity of money. No one was injured from the incident.

Then at around 8.50pm that evening, a man broke into a house on Cooper Street and left the property after being confronted by the occupants. No injuries were reported.

Wayne Anthony Jones, 29 years, of Furness Avenue in St Helens has been charged with robbery, possession of a weapon in a public place, burglary and theft from a shop.

He will appear at Wirral Adult Remand Court this morning, Tuesday 31 January.
