Appeal after knifepoint bike robbery in Oxton

We are appealing for information after a knifepoint robbery in Oxton on Wednesday (12 July).
 
Just after 8.05pm, a 13-year-old boy was riding his bicycle home near the play area near The Arno park in Oxton when he was approached by two males on another bike.

One of the offenders showed what appeared to be a knife in his waistband before stealing the victim’s bike, a matte green coloured Whyte 605 V4 2022 with an aluminium hard tail.

One offender is described as white and around 6ft tall with an average build. He was wearing black trousers and a green/blue top. The second offender was white and about 5ft 11in tall. He was wearing black trousers and a black or green top. Both spoke with a local accent and were wearing balaclavas.

While the victim was not physically harmed, he was left extremely shaken by the ordeal.

Detective Inspector Emma Kerrigan said: "This was a terrifying experience for this young man and we are calling on the community to help us identify those responsible.
 
"If you were in the area of The Arno, and the play area off Duck Pond Lane,at around 8pm on Tuesday, and saw two youths matching the description of the offenders or saw anything suspicious, we want to hear from you. 
 
“Likewise, if you have seen or been offered the bike since, let us know. Any CCTV, dashcam, descriptions or other information may prove to be the vital piece of information we need to bring the offenders to justice.
 
Det Insp Kerrigan added: "Carrying and threatening people with knives can have terrible consequences, both for the victim and the offender. Statistics show that you are much more likely to be a victim of knife crime if you carry such a weapon, and you will bring your loved ones further pain when you are brought to justice and put behind bars.

“We will continue to use all the tools at our disposal to stop and search those we suspect are in possession of weapons which can cause fear and harm, as well as carrying out targeted warrants and land searches where intelligence suggests they are being stored.”
