Detectives are appealing for information following a ram raid in St Helens in the early hours of this morning, Wednesday 19 July.
At around 12.15am, officers were called to reports that two men were breaking into Tesco Express on Bowness Avenue, Moss Bank and a quantity of cigarettes and alcohol were stolen.
It was reported that the suspects fled the scene on foot.
Officers attended and a white Citroen van was found abandoned at the scene which had been reported stolen in Tuebrook last week. The vehicle has been recovered for forensic examination.
An investigation is now underway, and officers remain at the location today to continue with enquiries.
Detective Inspector Peter Rexwinkel said: "We are in the early stages of the investigation and keen to speak to any witnesses who saw suspicious activity in and around Tesco Express on Bowness Avenue just after midnight this morning, or if you were passing and have captured dashcam footage or on your CCTV and doorbell camera then please get in touch.
“We are determined to identify those responsible and bring them to justice.”
Detective Inspector Rexwinkel added: “Targeting businesses in this manner affects residents who live in the community who rely on their local convenience store, which it currently cannot do because of the damage to the premises caused in the burglary.
“It is a huge inconvenience and distress to not only people who work incredibly hard to support its community, but also people who depend on it and shop there. I urge you to come forward if you know anything and we will take action."
