Detectives appeal for information after robbery in Bidston

Detectives ae appealing for information following reports of a robbery where two boys were threatened with a machete in Bidston.

At around 7.20pm last night (Wednesday 26 July) we received a report of a dispute between three boys outside the carpark at B&Q Bidston near to the Tradepoint entrance. 

One boy who was riding a grey electric bike with his friend was approached by another boy who was dressed in black carrying a machete. The boy threatened his victim and hit the bike with the machete before he made off with it towards a nearby cut through in the area.

No injuries were reported during the attack but the two young boys were left scared and distressed after the incident.

An investigation is underway and officers have carried out CCTV enquiries in the area and released a photo of the bike.

Extra police patrols are at the retail park in Bidston to prevent any similar attacks.

Detective Inspector Anna Hackett said: “This was a frightening attack on two boys who were threatened with a dangerous weapon and left fearing for their own safety after their bike was stolen.

“Thankfully no one was injured but any of these boys could have been seriously hurt during this violent attack.

“If you were near B&Q at the retail park in Bidston last night and saw the incident or the electric bike that was taken please contact police immediately. 

“Information from our community is vital if we are to stop young people carrying knives and dangerous weapons in our community that causes fear on our streets.

“Such crimes are violent, unacceptable and can cause serious harm. Our local officers remain in the area and are committed to removing anyone who uses such weapons in our community and Merseyside.”
