We are appealing for more information following a robbery in Wavertree yesterday morning (Tuesday 25 July).
Just before 10.20am we received a report that a woman had been attacked by two men carrying a bladed weapon who stole her handbag as she walked through Wavertree Mystery Park.
The men took her handbag and stole several items before they threw it on the ground. The suspects then ran off, further into the park.
The woman was treated by paramedics at the scene and taken to hospital after suffering injuries to her face.
An investigation is underway and officers have carried out forensic examinations and CCTV enquiries in the area.
Extra police patrols are in the area to prevent further incidents.
Detective Inspector Michael Fletcher said: “This was a terrifying attack on a woman who has suffered two severe wounds to her face as she walked through her local park.
“If you were in the park yesterday afternoon and saw the incident or have any further information please contact police immediately.
“Information from the public is vital if we are to stop people carrying weapons in our community that causes violence on our streets.
“Such actions are reckless, unacceptable and can cause serious harm and we are committed to removing anyone who uses such weapons in our community.”
