A woman has died in a road traffic collision in St Helens this morning, Wednesday 5th July.
Emergency services were called to the junction of Broad Oak Road and Delta Road at 7am following a collision involving a white Ford Fiesta and a refuse wagon.
Paramedics treated a female passenger aged in her 40s for a serious head injury and then took her to hospital for urgent treatment.
She died in hospital a short time later.
A 43-year-old man from St Helens has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving. He is police custody to be questioned.
The driver of the refuse wagon is assisting police with their enquiries.
Detective Sergeant Kurt Timpson from the MATRIX Serious Collision Investigation Unit said: “We have launched an investigation following the death of a women in a road traffic collision this morning. Her next of kin have been informed and specially trained officers are supporting them at this extremely difficult time and our thoughts are very much with them.
“Any road death causes a huge amount of heartache to family and friends left behind. My team will work relentlessly to get answers for the lady’s family and as such I would appeal directly to anyone who witnessed this incident or who has any information that may help to please contact the incident team.
“In addition, if you live locally or were in the area at the time and have any CCTV or dash camera footage please get in touch.”
Broad Oak Road is closed between Boardmans Lane and Ashtons Green Drive while collision investigation work is carried out and I would ask motorists to avoid the area today, thank you for your patience while we deal with this incident.
