CCTV appeal after Wavertee burglary

CCTV compilation - both men.jpg

We have issued CCTV images of two men who may have information that could assist enquiries following reports of a burglary in Wavertree on the evening of Tuesday 6 June.

It was reported an offender entered the house on Somerton Street through a ground floor window some time between 10-11.40pm.

The suspect took a Nintendo Switch controller, a black rucksack, a green leather rucksack and a brown leather bag. The bags contained bank cards and house keys.

The offender then left through the front door, leaving it open behind them, and heading off on foot in the direction of High Street

The victim woke the following morning to find the items taken and the door still open.

Since the burglary, extensive CCTV and witness enquiries have been conducted in the area and detectives have issued a CCTV image of two men they wish to speak to who may hold information that could assist their investigation.

Detective Inspector Katie Coote said: “While thankfully no one was hurt during this incident, the very act of entering someone’s home – where they have every right to feel safe – and taking valuable personal belongings can have a huge impact on the victim.

“It can shatter their confidence and trust in others, disturb their sleep indefinitely and leave them feeling anxious and scared in their own home for years to come.

“We have a dedicated burglary team called Operation Castle, whose work is targeted at reducing burglaries, bringing offenders to justice, and ultimately sparing residents the anguish of being a victim of burglary. Since the team started, burglary offences have decreased year on year across Merseyside.”

Det Insp Coote added: “We are asking the local community to tell us if they think they might recognise the men pictured, and to come forward if you have any information – however small – about this burglary.

“If you remember seeing anything suspicious or have potential CCTV from doorbell or dashcam cameras taken in the area at around that can assist, please let us know.

“We are particularly keen to speak to the men pictured as we feel they may have information that could be vital to our investigation.”

If you have CCTV, smart doorbell or dashcam footage of suspicious activity in your area then you can upload it here https://unitedkingdom1cpp-portal.digital-policing.co.uk/merseyside/appeal/residential-burglary
