A Wirral man has been arrested and charged on suspicion of arson in connection with reports of multiple fires in the area.
Just after 4.50am on Saturday 17 June, officers were called to a report of a fire at an address on Claughton Road which had caused damage to other properties.
Nine other fires to skips and vehicles in the nearby area were also reported.
Several people were taken to hospital with injuries caused from smoke inhalation and are recovering at home. Two police officers were also taken to hospital after suffering dog bites to their arm and hand.
Scott McKay, 31 years, of Guildford Street, Egremont has been charged with 12 counts of arson with recklessness as whether life was endangered.
He has been remanded into custody and will appear at Adult Remand Court today, Monday 19 June.
