We have charged a 32 year-old man with two robberies.
At 12.30pm on Tuesday 13th June we received a report that a male had threatened staff at McColl’s convenience store on County Road with a knife before making off with bottles of alcohol.
A short time later a woman in her 80s was followed by a male as she walked along Walton Road. The male grabbed her and following a brief struggle a gold cross and chain was stolen from around her neck. The pensioner suffered minor injuries in the struggle.
Paul Whalley, of Naseby Street, Walton, has been charged with two robberies.
He was remanded into custody and is due to appear before Liverpool, Knowsley and St Helens Magistrates today, Thursday 22nd June.
