Male, 17, charged with modifying imitation firearm

We have charged a 17-year-old male following an incident in Market Street, Prescot, on the evening of Wednesday 24^th May.

At around 11.30pm it was reported that a male was on Kemble Street and a loud bang was heard and four males running away.

There were no reports of anyone being injured and no evidence of damage or bullet has been recovered.

Following enquiries a 17 year-old male has been charged with modifying an imitation firearm. He is on bail to appear at Merseyside Youth Court on Tuesday 13th June.

An investigation remains ongoing and CCTV and witness enquiries continue to be carried out.

Detective Chief Inspector Paul McVeigh said: “Our enquiries remain ongoing as we seek to establish what took place on Wednesday night.

“I am continuing to appeal for anyone who was in the vicinity of Kemble Street at around 11.30pm who may have seen or heard anything suspicious to contact us.

“Guns and weapons have no place on the streets of Merseyside and we will immediately responds to incidents involving firearms to ensure that our communities remain safe and feel safe.

“In 2021 we saw the result of that hard work with the lowest number of firearms discharges Merseyside had seen for more than 20 years.

“The public are our eyes and ears and any information about where guns are being stored or who is using them is vital to the work we are doing.”
