We are appealing for information following a burglary at a store in Windle this morning (Monday 6 March).
At around 12.20am officers were called to a report of a burglary at a Tesco Express store on Rainford Road.
It was reported that three men in a dark coloured Mercedes broke into the store and stole a quantity of cash.
They then left the store towards Liverpool.
No one was harmed during the incident and an investigation is underway in the area.
Local police officers remain at the scene and are continuing to carry out witness enquiries and analyse CCTV footage in the area.
Detective Inspector Barbara Hebden said: “This is a serious crime that has stopped the store from opening today as we carry out further examinations in the area.
“Business thefts are not a victimless crime and have a huge impact on the shop, staff and community who need and use this store on a daily basis.
"We are determined to find the offenders to prevent these crimes from taking place and ensure other stores are not targeted in our community.
“If you were driving on Rainford Road in the early hours of this morning and saw anything suspicious or have any CCTV or dashcam footage please check your systems and contact police if you have any information that could help our investigation.”
Anyone with information should contact us @MerPolCC or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111 with reference 23000191156.
