Two firearms recovered during open land search in Liverpool

Officers carrying out an open land search in the Dovecot area yesterday, Monday 6^th March, have recovered two firearms.

The search was carried out on waste land off Colwell Road as part of an ongoing and pre-planned disruption and reassurance campaign.

Two handguns were discovered during the search and have been forensically recovered to establish if they are viable weapons.

A search of the area remains ongoing.

Detective Chief Inspector Paul Grounds, from the Firearms Investigation Team, said: “We have recovered two handguns as part of our ongoing disruption activity to target criminality and serious and organised crime.

“The guns have been forensically recovered and will be examined to establish if they are viable weapons. Our enquiries remain ongoing.

“Guns have no place on the streets of Merseyside, and we will do everything in our powers to seize them and put the people who supply or carry them behind bars where they rightfully belong.

“I am pleased that these weapons are in our hands so they cannot be used to cause fear or harm in our communities and I would continue to ask the public to be our eyes and ears and tell us who is carrying these weapons and where are they being stored or hidden.”
