Two men arrested following stabbing in St Helens

Two men haven been arrested following a stabbing in St Helens in the early of hours of this morning, Sunday 5 March.

At around 1.15am, emergency services were called to Ormskirk Street after a report that a 20-year-old man had been stabbed.

Officers attended and an ambulance took the victim to hospital for treatment where he is in a stable condition.

Two men aged 19 years from St Helens have been arrested on suspicion of wounding/affray and are in police custody for questioning.

A cordon is currently in place in the surrounding area while crime scene investigations are carried out. We ask motorists to avoid the area and find alternative routes while we deal with this incident. 

Chief Inspector Bobby Woodhall said: “We are in the very early stages of an investigation after a man was stabbed in St Helens in the early hours of this morning.

“Although two arrests have been made, our enquiries continue, and we’d still urge anyone who witnessed the incident, or captured the incident on dashcam, doorbell or CCTV footage which may be vital to the case.”

Chief Inspector Woodhall added: “Reducing knife crime in Merseyside is a priority all year round. Our officers are committed in removing anyone who stores, carries and uses weapons through proactive use of stop and search powers, open land searches, warrants and education work alongside partners.

“The use of knives and any weapons is reckless and will not be tolerated, and can have devastating consequences, not only for the victim and their family but also for the offenders involved.

“I would urge people to educate themselves and speak to their children and family members about the dangers of knife crime.

“We continue to seek out those involved in knife crime, enticing young and vulnerable people to carry weapons or involved in gangs.”
