Detectives are appealing for witnesses following an assault in Vauxhall yesterday evening, Saturday 27 May.
Just before midnight, emergency services were called to Fulton Street after a man was found unconscious after being assaulted.
The victim, a man in his 50s, was taken to hospital for treatment for his injuries. He is now in a serious but stable condition.
An investigation is underway including witness, CCTV and forensic enquiries which are being carried out in the local area.
Road closures are in place at Fulton Street, Blackstone Street and Regent Street. We ask motorists avoid the area and find an alternative route and thank you for your patience.
Detective Inspector Rob Pritchard said: “Enquiries are in the very early stages to establish what has taken place.
“I would urge anyone who was in the vicinity at around midnight and saw the assault take place to please contact us and help with our enquiries.
“I also ask any motorists who were in the area to please check your dashcam footage in case you have captured something which will assist in the investigation. Every piece of information or footage could be vital in establishing what happened."
Anyone with information is asked to DM @MerPolCC or @CrimestoppersUK on 0800 555 111 quoting reference 23000454620.
