We can confirm that two grenades have been safely removed this morning (Monday 6 November) following an arson at an address in Croxteth.
At around 10.40pm on Sunday 5 November we received a report that two men dressed in black had broken into a house on Parkview Road and set fire to it. No injuries were reported.
Merseyside Fire and Rescue Services extinguished the fire and after examining the property found two grenades on the site.
EOD officers removed the grenades and have taken them to a secluded area where they will be safely detonated.
Residents are now allowed to return to their homes.
A joint investigation between Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service and Merseyside Police is ongoing and anyone with any information is asked to contact police.
Chief Inspector Nathan Stockley said: “We are in the early stages of investigating this incident that has caused significant damage to a house in Croxteth.
“This was a totally reckless thing to do and is wholly unacceptable where the lives of residents were put in serious danger. I would like to reassure those who were evacuated that we are working to find those responsible.
“We are appealing to anyone who lives in the area and has doorbell or CCTV footage from last night that may have captured the incident to come forward as we believe they could hold information that could be vital to our continuing enquiries.
“Similarly if you were on Parkview Road and saw what happened please let us know. Any information you hold could be crucial to our investigation.”
