Officers from Merseyside Police Roads Policing Unit have arrested a 37-year-old woman from Leasowe following a serious road traffic collision in Wirral this afternoon (Thursday, 19 October).
The incident happened on Welton Road, Bromborough, near to McDonalds at about 4.10pm, when a silver van has collided with a 3 year old child who had exited from a Nissan Qashqai.
The child was taken to hospital having sustained serious injuries, and she remains critical but stable.
The driver of the transit van stopped at the scene and he is assisting police with the investigation.
The woman was arrested for drug driving and child protection related offences and will be interviewed by officers.
Officers from the Roads Policing team are carrying out examinations at the scene and anyone who witnessed the incident, or who has any dashcam footage which could help with inquiries, is asked to contact the police.
