Man jailed after sexual assault in newsagents in Liverpool

A man has been jailed after two teenage girls were sexually assaulted inside a newsagents in Liverpool.

Sanad Ahmed, aged 28 of Asbridge Street in Liverpool has been sentenced to 7 years at Liverpool Crown Court today, Thursday 5 October for sex offences. He is to remain on the sex offenders register for life and is subject to a 10yrs restraining order to protect the victims. 

During the afternoon of Saturday 15th May 2021, two teenage girls went into Richmond News, on Richmond St where they were sexually assaulted by shop worker Sanad Ahmed.

A group of teenagers reported the assault to police when they saw the girls after the incident.

Sanad was arrested on the same day and denied all offences.

Today a jury found him guilty of all offences including rape (oral) and assault by penetration. 

Speaking after the sentencing Detective Chief Inspector Paul Parry said: “For years Ahmed has denied sexually assaulting his victims whilst he was working at a newsagents in Liverpool putting them through the distress and turmoil of reliving the events in court.

“No one should be subjected to such horrifying behaviour in our community and we welcome the sentence given out by the court.

"I would also like to thank the witnesses of the aftermath of the incident who helped Ahmed's victims and bravely gave evidence in court today.

“I hope this result gives them and his victims some sort of closure and allows them to move on with their lives knowing he cannot harm them or anyone else.

“Merseyside Police is completely committed to protecting children from sexual abuse and those who seek to do them harm.  I would like to take this opportunity to reassure anyone who has suffered a sexual offence that if you can find the courage to come forward please speak to us as soon as you can. Our specially trained officers will treat you with sensitivity and compassion.”
