Appeal following robbery in New Ferry

We are appealing for information following a robbery in New Ferry in the early hours of this morning, Friday 22 September.

It was reported that at around 1.30am a man was walking along New Chester Road when he was attacked by a group of five men aged in their 20s – four men were on foot and one was riding a red mountain bike – and the side of his face was slashed.

It was further reported that the victim in his 30s ran in to nearby block of flats where he was attacked again and his top was stolen. He was then chased along New Chester Road and further attacked where his mobile phone was stolen.

The offenders made off in the direction of New Ferry.

The victim was taken to hospital for treatment.

Police attended and searched the area where Police Dog Yoko found a knife.

Officers are examining CCTV footage in the area and appealing for witnesses of the assault to contact police.

Community Inspector Daniel Greenhalgh said: “Enquiries are ongoing and we would urge anyone who witnessed the incident, or captured it on their mobile phone, dashcam, doorbell or CCTV to please contact us to help identify the offenders.

“Thankfully Police Dog Yoko recovered the knife which will be forensically examined, so well done to her for finding the weapon and taking it off the streets.

“Reducing knife crime in Merseyside is a priority all year round. Our officers are committed in removing anyone who stores, carries and uses weapons through proactive use of stop and search powers, open land searches, warrants and education work alongside partners.

“We continue to seek out those involved in knife crime, enticing young and vulnerable people to carry weapons or involved in gangs.

“The use of knives and any weapons is reckless and will not be tolerated, and can have devastating consequences, not only for the victim and their family but also for the offenders involved. 

“I would urge people to educate themselves and parent speak to their children and family members about the dangers of knife crime.”
