We can confirm that emergency services were on Wennington Road in Southport following a serious road traffic collision this afternoon (Thursday 14 September).
At around 1.45pm we received a report that a white Vauxhall Mokka was involved in a collision on Wennington Road where the vehicle struck a post outside a property.
The driver of the car was taken to hospital in a serious condition.
There were no other people injured in this collision.
Wennington Road is closed between Poulton Road to Hereford Road while an investigation takes place. We ask that motorists avoid the area and find an alternative route and thank you for your patience.
We are appealing for witnesses or anyone who has doorbell or dash camera footage which may captured this white Vauxhall Mokka in the lead up to this incident.
Detective Sergeant Kurt Timpson from the Matrix Serious Collision Investigation Unit said: “An investigation is ongoing on Wennington Road as our officers work to understand the circumstances of this incident.
“If anyone saw this vehicle in the area at the time, I would be grateful if they could give our team a call.
“Similarly, any residents who have any CCTV or doorbell footage at their properties on Wennington Road that would have captured the build up to this incident, I would appreciate you getting in touch. Any piece of information, no matter how small or insignificant it may appear, could assist us in our investigation.”
