Two men arrested following serious injury assault in Rock Ferry

Two men have been arrested following a serious assault in Rock Ferry in the early hours of this morning (Saturday, 9 September), which has resulted in the victim sustaining serious injuries.
Response officers were on patrol in the Rock Ferry area when they heard screaming and shouting coming from the junction of Bebington Road and Birkett Road, they quickly made their way to the sound of the screaming where they saw three men and two women. The men were fighting and when the officers arrived the group split up, one of the men fell to the floor and another man was caught and arrested. The third male was arrested soon after at a nearby address.
The 26-year-old victim had sustained serious injuries and was taken to hospital for treatment to a punctured lung, multiple abrasions, and a head injury.
Medics said that if it had not been for the prompt response of the officers, which enabled rapid first aid, the victim's condition would have deteriorated significantly and the injuries could have proved fatal.
A 25-year-old man from Oxton has been arrested on suspicion of Section 47 assault and a 21-year-old man from Rock Ferry has been arrested on suspicion of Section 18 assault. Both are in custody and will be interviewed by detectives.
Detective Chief Inspector Ben Dyer, said: "This was a particularly vicious assault, which resulted in a man sustaining really serious injuries. If it hadn't been for the prompt response of our officers we have been told that this could have been fatal. I would appeal to any members of the public who witnessed the incident, or who has CCTV or doorbell footage that captured the incident to contact us. We are particularly interested in speaking to the two women who were at the scene as information they have could be vital to our inquiries."
