We are urgently appealing for witnesses following a fail to stop collision in Maghull this morning, Wednesday 27th December.
We were contacted at 6.55am following reports a cyclist had been in collision with car on Northway, close to the Shell petrol station.
The car, believed to be a Skoda Octavia, failed to stop at the scene and enquiries are ongoing to trace the driver.
The male cyclist, who is in his 50s, has been taken to hospital with life threatening injuries.
Road closures are currently in place in the surrounding area while an investigation into the collision remains ongoing.
Detective Sergeant Kurt Timpson, from Merseyside Police Serious Collision Investigation Unit (SCIU), said: “We are making an urgent appeal to trace the driver of a car which failed to stop at the scene of a road traffic collision in Maghull this morning.
“We believe the car, a Skoda Octavia, with a plate between 2004 and 2013, would have suffered noticeable damage and we would ask for the public’s help in tracing its movements following the collision.
“Anyone who has seen the car, captured its movements on a dash cam, or know where it is now is asked to contact us as a matter of urgency.”
