We are appealing for information after two police cars were deliberately set on fire in Belle Vale last night, Sunday 7 April.
At around 11.45pm, passing patrols in Belle Vale reported a parked police van having been set alight on Childwall Valley Road, close to Belle Vale Police Station.
Just five minutes later, a parked police car attending an unrelated incident was also set alight on nearby Belle Vale Road.
Both vehicles were unoccupied at the time and no injuries were reported, but significant damage was caused and Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service (MFRS) attended to extinguish the fires.
House-to-house enquires and CCTV enquiries are ongoing and forensic examinations of the vehicles are taking place.
Detective Inspector Steve Street said: “We are treating these incidents as deliberate and linked, and our extensive enquiries will continue to identify those responsible.
“Thankfully, no members of the public or officers were injured. Clearly, to set any vehicle alight in a residential area endangers the lives and homes of those living nearby, in addition to the added disruption caused to the emergency services.
“Both of these vehicles are now off the road, at significant cost, and numerous police and fire services resources were called to Belle Vale in response to the incident.
“All of this has an impact on emergency services which any one of us might have to call on in a time of need.
“The actions of those who carried out these attacks on the police vehicles are unacceptable and I would urge anyone with information to come forward and provide any CCTV, dashcam or doorbell footage you may hold.”
