Detectives are appealing for information following an assault in Fazakerley last night, Tuesday 16 April.
At around 10.30pm, emergency services attended an address in Drake Road to reports of an altercation involving a woman and a man outside a property.
The man, in his 70s, was reportedly hit with an object and subsequently suffered a medical episode. He was taken to hospital and is currently in a serious but stable condition.
A 55-year-old woman from Walton was arrested on suspicion of Section 18 assault and attempted criminal damage and was taken to a police station for questioning. She remains in custody.
House-to-house, CCTV and witness enquiries continue at the scene.
Detective Inspector Steve Street said: "We are keen to speak with anyone locally who saw this incident or may have captured anything on CCTV, dashcam or doorbell devices.
"A man is seriously ill in hospital and we are working to establish the circumstances of this incident, so come forward and we will take action."
