We have arrested a man and a woman following an incident in Dovecot yesterday, Wednesday 10 April.
At around 3.25pm, a report was received of a fight in Pilch Lane, in which a man sustained a serious facial injury. He was taken to hospital for assessment.
A 53-year-old man from Roby was arrested on suspicion of Section 18 assault.
A 42-year-old woman from Huyton was arrested on suspicion of Section 47 assault and criminal damage.
Both have been released on conditional bail pending further enquiries.
Detective Inspector Michael Fletcher said: "This incident happened close to St Margaret Mary's Junior School, and will have been upsetting to witness, for children, parents and staff. We will be closely liaising with the school to keep them informed.
"Two people were quickly arrested at the scene, but our investigation continues to establish the full circumstances. Officers will be conducting enquiries in the area today and to offer some reassurance to people in the community who will have been understandably concerned.
"If you witnessed this incident or live close to the school and captured anything on CCTV, dashcam or doorbell footage, let us know."
