We have arrested two men on suspicion of handling stolen goods after officers found numerous stolen cars inside a garage on Rice Lane, Liverpool yesterday, Tuesday 2 April.
At around 11am we received a report that a stolen vehicle was travelling on Rice Lane. Enquiries identified the vehicle was being transported on the rear of a low loader truck.
Officers found and stopped the truck, and arrested the driver, a 40-year-old man from Liverpool on suspicion of handling stolen goods.
Later officers searched an associated garage and found stolen vehicles inside, which are currently being examined and seized by police.
A 60-year-old from Liverpool who was found at the garage was also arrested on suspicion of handling stolen goods.
Both men have been conditionally bailed pending further enquiries.
Crime scene investigators are currently on Rice Lane and a police cordon is in place whist we continue our investigations.
Detective Inspector Neil Dillon said: “Thanks to the vigilance and alertness of officers, we have recovered a large number of vehicles we believe to have been stolen, and arrested two men.
“We take all reports of car thefts seriously and are committed to reducing the number of offences in Merseyside.
"We will continue to proactively patrol as well as respond to reports of suspicious activity on our roads in order to prevent as many car thefts as possible.
"We urge anyone who has any intelligence or knows someone involved in this type of crime to contact Merseyside Police social media desk @MerPolCC so we can investigate."
