Officers carried out 15 stop checks in Walton yesterday, Thursday 29 August, following a day of action.
Our Local Policing team and Matrix officers carried out a proactive policing operation to disrupt criminality and protect those living in the area.
A Section 60 Order was put in place which gave officers additional powers to search suspects. Fifteen stop checks were carried out with one man being found in possession of drugs.
Uniformed police will continue to patrol the streets over the weekend and a mobile police station located on City Road for residents to come and speak to officers with any concerns they may have.
The increased police power to search is not taken lightly yet is a direct response following two stabbing incidents in Walton on the evening of Wednesday and early hours of Thursday, 28 and 29 August.
The victim who was stabbed on Weaver Street, a man in his 40s, has been released from hospital.
The 14-year-old male who was stabbed in a separate incident on City Road remains in hospital in a stable condition.
Chief Inspector for Local Policing in Liverpool, Sarah Rotherham said: “The high visibility police presence in Walton and the subsequent Section 60 order is to reassure the local community. Officers have been engaging with locals residents who spoke about issues which mattered to them.
“Such violence and the use of knives and any weapons is unlawful and will not be tolerated in Merseyside. Extra officers will continue to be in the area to search any individuals or groups causing such issues.
“It is understandable that these two incidents will have shocked the community, however following further enquires we do not believe the two incidents are linked at this stage.
“Patrols will continue in Walton over the weekend to reassure our residents so if you have any information on any offences in the area please speak with our officers.”
The investigation is ongoing and we continue to appeal for information.
Chief Inspector Rotherham added: “Whilst we have good lines of enquiry for both investigations, I am appealing for anyone who has information in relation to the two stabbings on Weaver Street and City Road to please contact us a matter of urgency. Any piece of information no matter how small could be vital to our enquiries.
“I would also urge people who we haven’t already contacted to please check your dashcam, CCTV/ doorbell or mobile phone footage for something captured which may be vital to the investigation.”
Anyone with information is asked to call 101, DM @MerPolCC or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 quoting reference 24000746285.
