A Section 60 Order and a Section 34 Dispersal Order have been introduced in Bootle and Seaforth following incidents of disorder.
The Section 60, under S60 of the Criminal Justice and Public Order Act 1994, gives officers enhanced powers to stop and search individuals in the area and is designed to minimise serious violence. It is introduced at 2pm today and run until 4am tomorrow morning, Saturday 10 August.
The Section 34 Dispersal Order will run from 2pm today and will run for 48 hours until 1.59pm on Sunday 11 August. The order comes under Section 34 of the Anti-Social Behaviour & Policing Act 2014, which gives police officers and police community support traffic officers powers to direct people who are engaging in antisocial behaviour or are likely to become involved in such incidents. These powers will not be used for anyone visiting the area to go about their daily business.
Under the legislation, officers have the power to seize any item used in the commission of anti-social behaviour.
Should a person who has previously been directed to leave the area return, an offence would be committed, for which they may ultimately be arrested.
Both cover the area in the map, as follows: In the geographical location of Bootle, bounded by and including, Dacre Street, Bedford Place, Bedford Road, Southport Road (A5038), Bailey Drive (A5038), Netherton Way (A5038), Church Road (A5036), Princess Way (A5036), River Mersey, inclusive of Bootle Oriel Road, Bootle New Strand Train Station and Seaforth and Litherland Train Station (Bootle, Seaforth including the railway line and railway stations).
Neighbourhood Policing Inspector Doug Chadwick said: “These orders will give officers on the ground the ability to stop and search anyone suspected of carrying weapons or planning any criminality, and strengthen their ability to protect the community from incidents of disorder.
“The ultimate aim of this tool is to keep the public safe, and Bootle and Seaforth residents will see highly visible police patrols over the next 48 hours. I would ask anyone with concerns to speak to those officers in the area, and be assured that we will respond to all information to remove people intent on committing acts of anti-social behaviour weapons from the communities.
“We will continue to deploy such tactics where we believe they can help our efforts to keep people safe.”
