A 17-year-old male was arrested after a group threw missiles at police vehicles in Woodchurch on Sunday (8 December).
At around 7.50pm, the officers were in the area as part of high visibility activity to reassure residents following instances of anti-social behaviour and to disrupt other criminality as part of EVOLVE Wirral.
One male was seen making gun gestures with his hand to officers before throwing an object that hit a police vehicle. Officers got out of the vehicle and chased the suspect into nearby gardens and detained him. Once in police custody, the male spat at officers.
A 17-year-old male from Liscard was arrested on suspicion of violent disorder, three counts of criminal damage and assault of a police officer. He was taken into custody to be interviewed.
Inspector Mark Kennedy said: “These officers were in the area to protect the public and to provide a reassuring presence in a community that has sadly suffered at the hands of criminality.
“Officers who turn up to work every day to keep the communities of Merseyside safe do not deserve to be treated in this way, and I am pleased to see that – despite coming under attack from objects thrown – the officers on duty were able to chase and detain a suspect.
“We will not tolerate any kind of anti-social behaviour, which has a huge impact on the quality of life on residents.
“The officers were on patrol as part of EVOLVE Wirral, a partnership approach that sees police and partners working together to improve the Woodchurch, Noctorum and Beechwood estates and make them safer for generations to come.
“Our officers remain undeterred and will continue to provide a presence where communities tell us there are issues, working with our partners to ensure our streets are safe spaces to be enjoyed by everyone who lives there.”
