Man arrested after drugs found during car stop in Birkenhead

We arrested a man after drugs – including suspected cocaine hidden in a soft drink can – were recovered during the stop check of a car in Birkenhead.

Officers spotted the vehicle involved in what appeared to be a drug deal on Menai Street, Wirral at 7.25pm on Sunday (29 December) and indicated for the driver to stop soon after on Claughton Road.

The driver and vehicle were searched under the Misuse of Drugs Act, when £700 cash was seized along with seven bags of white powder suspected to be cocaine, and bags of cannabis. 

The driver had also received messages suggesting links to drug supply.

A 44-year-old man from Poulton was arrested on suspicion of possession with intent to supply Class A and B drugs (cocaine and cannabis).

Detective Inspector Sarah Wilkinson said: “Drug dealing is a trade that depends on violence and intimidation to exist, often relying on the use of weapons including knives and firearms.

“Those criminals involved in the supply of illegal drugs bring nothing but misery to our communities, and simply do not care about the violent and distressing consequences of their actions.
 
“We conduct stop checks such as this, warrants and land searches often as a result of information provided by the public. We count on their support to tell us where drug dealing is happening and where weapons are being stored, so if you have any information that might help us identify those involved, please contact us and we will do the rest.”
