A teenage male has been sentenced in connection with a stabbing in Newsham Park earlier this year.
Liverpool Crown Court heard that just before 6pm on Monday 19 August, officers were called by paramedics to Newsham Park following a man being stabbed in the upper body.
The 19-year-old victim was taken to hospital in a serious condition, and has since recovered from his injuries.
Two days later detectives charged a 15-year-old male from Everton, who cannot be named for legal reasons, and he pled guilty to Section 18 assault at a court hearing last month.
At Liverpool Crown Court yesterday, Monday 16 December, the offender was sentenced to four years and six months in a Young Offenders Institute and four years on extended licence.
Detective Sergeant Andrew Trimble said: “The teenage male is now facing a lengthy sentence for his involvement in such violence, and I hope he reflects on his appalling actions committed that day.
“Carrying a knife is not only reckless and can have devastating consequences, not only for the victim and their family but also for the offenders involved. Thankfully in this instance the victim survived and has recovered from his injuries.”
Detective Sergeant Trimble added: “Reducing knife crime in Merseyside is a priority all year round.
“Our officers are committed in removing anyone who stores, carries and uses weapons through proactive use of stop and search powers, open land searches, warrants and education work alongside partners.
“I would urge people to educate themselves and speak to their children and family members about the dangers of knife crime.
“We continue to seek out those involved in knife crime, enticing young and vulnerable people to carry weapons or involved in gangs.”
