Martin Wilson (left) and Connor Smith
Two men have been sentenced to a combined 64 years for the murder of Nyle Corrigan in 2020.
Nyle, who was 19-years-old, died from a single gunshot wound to the back after being shot on Boode Croft, in Stockbridge Village, on 12 November 2020.
Martin Wilson, 37, of no fixed abode and Connor Smith, 26, of Midway Road, Huyton were both jailed today, Thursday 19 December, at Liverpool Crown Court after being found guilty of murder and conspiring to possess a firearm and ammunition with intent to endanger life.
Wilson and Smith were each jailed for life, to serve a minimum of 32 years.
Jamie Coggins, 27, of The Spinney, Stockbridge Village, (below) was also jailed today for four years after being found guilty of assisting an offender.
Liverpool Crown Court heard how Nyle had a minor dispute with Martin Wilson and another male that escalated to the point that he was targeted in a fatal shooting.
At around 6.30pm on 12 November 2020, Wilson and Smith waited for Nyle to cycle past on his bike on Boode Croft before shooting him in the back.
Coggins was found guilty of assisting an offender after helping Wilson and Smith.
Detective Chief Inspector Cath Cummings, who was the Senior Investigating Officer in this investigation, said: “To end the life of a young man over such a petty dispute is beyond comprehension and just serves to highlight the callous actions of these men.
“This was an extremely cowardly attack in which Wilson and Smith hid from Nyle before shooting him in the back as he was on his bike.
“Everyone’s thoughts at Merseyside Police remain with Nyle’s family and friends. No sentence, however long, can change what these two men did, but I hope knowing that they have been brought to justice and are now off our streets brings the family some small amount of comfort.
“I also hope this sentencing sends a stark warning to anyone who thinks it’s acceptable to pick up and use a gun in our communities. If you choose to get involved in gun crime, we will be relentless in finding you and you could end up spending a significant part of your life in prison."
