We are appealing for witnesses following a report of a robbery in Walton this morning, Thursday 12 December.
It was reported that at around 10.15am a man threatened a driver of a black Kia Sportage with a firearm and told them to get out of the car on Walton Breck Road. The offender then drove away and the victim was not injured in the robbery.
The offender is described around 5ft 9in tall, slim to medium build. He was dressed in black with a face covering.
Armed police officers attended and the police helicopter was deployed to search the surrounding area. The vehicle was later found on Ellel Grove.
An investigation is underway with extensive CCTV and witness enquiries being conducted and are appealing for anyone with information to come forward.
Detective Seargent Clare Walsh said: “We are in the very early stages of this investigation and we’re keen to speak to any witnesses or anyone with any information.
“Walton Breck Road is a busy area and there will be people who may have witnessed the incident and I urge those people to tell us what you know.
“In addition if you spotted anyone making off from Ellel Grove please get in touch, and check your CCTV, dashcam or other devices as it may have captured something which will help with the investigation.
“Thankfully no one was injured, but to carry a firearm is clearly an extremely reckless and dangerous act which could have led to tragic circumstances.
“So if you know anything, please tell us and we’ll take action to find those responsible and bring them to justice.”
Detective Seargent Walsh added: “Our work to remove dangerous weapons from the streets of Merseyside remains ongoing on a daily basis.
“It is vital that members of our communities come forward with information so we can make our communities safer for the decent, law abiding people who live in areas affected by gun crime.
“Seizing firearms means they can no longer be used to cause fear or harm to our communities and I would encourage anyone who has information to come forward and tell us what they know.”
If you have any CCTV, dashcam or doorbell footage or information about this incident, please DM our social media desk on Twitter @MerPolCC or Facebook ‘Merseyside Police Contact Centre’ quoting incident reference 257 of 12 December.
