We are appealing for witnesses following an incident involving an electric bike in Anfield this evening (Thursday, 11 January).
At around 7.30pm, an officer on foot spotted two males, not wearing helmets, on an electric bike on Priory Road and signalled for them to stop. The two males on board the bike subsequently came off the bike.
The rider had sustained serious injuries to his legs and head, which are not believed to be life threatening. The pillion passenger ran off into Anfield Cemetery, but was detained by officers a short while later.
The rider of the bike, a 17-year-old male from Abergele, North Wales, and the pillion passenger, a 15-year-old male from Everton , were both taken to hospital to be treated for the injuries they had sustained.
The rider is being treated for serious head and leg injuries and has been arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving, failing to stop and possession of a Class B controlled drug.
The passenger suffered superficial injuries and has been discharged from hospital. He has been arrested on suspicion of a possession of a Class B controlled drug and has been taken to a police station where he will be questioned by detectives.
Thankfully no-one else was injured in the collision.
Officers from the Roads Policing Unit are carrying out an investigation in to the incident and forensic examinations are taking place at the scene. Priory Road at the junction of Walton Lane is closed and motorists are advised to find alternative routes.
Chief Inspector Tom Welch said: "I would like to take this opportunity to ask any motorists who were driving along Priory Road and witnessed the incident or captured it on dash cam footage to call us, as information they have could assist us with our enquiries."
