We can confirm that three people have been arrested following a firearms discharge in Netherton earlier this month.
On Friday 5 January, we received a report of a shooting on Harrops Croft and following enquiries we were able to locate a 26-year-old man who had been shot in his leg.
He received treatment in hospital and has since been discharged, but is refusing to co-operate with the police investigation.
We have now arrested two men, aged 30 and 24, on suspicion of possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life/enable another to do so.
The 30-year-old has also been arrested on suspicion of using threatening/abusive/insulting words/behaviour with intent to cause fear or/provoke unlawful violence.
They both remain in police custody.
A third person – a 38-year-old woman – has been arrested on suspicion of possession with intent to supply controlled Class A drugs (cocaine and heroin). She has been conditionally bailed.
Detective Chief Inspector Paul McVeigh said: “I hope that these arrests show that Merseyside Police will be relentless in its pursuit of those involved in gun crime, even if the victim of an incident is unwilling to co-operate with the investigation.
“We understand the concern that these incidents will cause for our local communities, but please be reassured that we are determined to rid the streets of firearms and find those involved in serious organised crime.
“We relentlessly pursue those suspected as being involved in gun crime and we need the public to be our eyes and ears and tell us what they know so that we can take positive action.
“Even though we have made these arrests, we are still appealing for anyone with information to please come forward.
“If you witnessed the incident, or who has doorbell footage, or any information which could help us with our inquiries to come forward. I would also like to appeal to any motorists who were in the area, who may have captured the incident on dashcam footage to get in touch.”
If you have information in relation to this incident then please call Crimestoppers, anonymously on 0800 555 111, quoting reference number 24000029414.
